Amenyo Foundation Gets Ready for Next Trip to Ghana

The AMENYO FOUNDATION is pleased to announce that the 2023 trip to Ghana will be taking place this year in the late Spring.   Already the fourteen travelers are anticipating meeting with the Paramount Chief, Paramount Queen Mother and all elders of Kpenoe to renew friendships.  On the itinerary will also be visiting schools, clinics, the Cured Lepers village, and artisans in the Volta Region.

Major objectives of this year's journey will be to further the relationship between the Foundation and the Kpenoe Health Clinic, to provide reusable sanitary menstrual pads to all village students who lack such products and therefore must absent themselves from schools attendance for significant period of time, and to continue building relationship with the Chiefs, Queen Mothers and elders of the neighboring community of Takla.

A chance to visit, participate in and appreciate the rich culture of the Ewe people, will provide a backdrop to this journey of faith, discovery, and friendship.  Also planned will be opportunities to worship with the people of Evangelical Presbyterian Church, meet Amenyo scholars and graduates, and visit the tourist destinations of the outdoor markets, the rain forest, the Cape Coast Slave Castle, and Kakum National Park.

It is with deep sadness that Amenyo Foundation shares the following news about the passing of the father of Togbe Kotoku XI and his upcoming funeral. Togbe Amenyo I, Mamaga Amenyo I, and the Amenyo Board of Directors send their sympathy, support, and prayers to Togbe Kotoku XI and his family. May the funeral of Ex. Sgt. Amenyo Foundation Receives Notes of Thanks from Concord (NH) Hospital and the Dover (NH) Children’s Home

As reported here on January 16th, Amenyo Foundation’s Batik Boutique has donated over 1,000 masks to those in need in New Hampshire. Batik Boutique is instrumental in raising funds for Amenyo Foundation and also helping those in the United States during this difficult time. The two thank you letters, below, clearly show the need that Batik Boutique is helping to mitigate.

Hi Marcia

Happy New Year! On behalf of the children and staff of Dover Children’s Home, thank you for your incredibly generous December 2020 gifts of 2 bags of reusable face masks for the children placed in the care of our non-profit program.

Compassion and kindness from our neighbors help us provide a safe, nurturing environment that opens the door to critical treatment services for NH’s abused, neglected, and at-risk youth.

In fragile economic times, the positive impact of community support is never more apparent. During the Great Depression, Dover Children's Home survived, despite literally having a nickel in the operating account at one point, thanks to the generosity and compassion of our community. Much has changed over the years but the love and kindness from our friends and neighbors have endured.  We’re so grateful that you continue to include DCH in your charitable giving.  It means the world to us!!

As one of the few community-based residential treatment programs for children remaining in NH, it’s more important than ever for Dover Children’s Home to provide a safe-haven for young people to develop the skills and resources they’ll need to become healthy, productive members of the community.  Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your invaluable and enduring support of our mission to help these deserving children reclaim their lives, recover their dreams, and achieve their potential.

With gratitude,
Renee

Amenyo Foundation Received a Generous Donation of Shirts from the American Youth Foundation

Amenyo Foundation received a donation of 116 new t-shirts and sweatshirts from American Youth Foundation’s Camp Merrovista in Tuftonboro, NH. These shirts will be taken to Ghana on the next trip and given to those in need in the Kpenoe and Ho areas of the Volta Region. T-shirts are commonly worn in Ghana due to their year round warm climate and will be very much welcomed. The sweatshirts will be useful in the mountainous regions where it is cooler and also by those in warmer areas where their concept of “cold” is quite different from those who live in temperate regions. Amenyo Foundation is grateful for the thoughtfulness of this donation.

Camp Merrovista is one of two camps run by the American Youth Foundation. Their motto is "be my own self, at my very best, all the time!” which is reflected in their camp programs. The camp is located on 600 acres in the beautiful Ossipee Mountains of New Hampshire which enables the camp to offer unique outdoor programs for its campers which help each camper to strive to be his or her very best. Merrovista also offers programs for school and other groups year round.

Over 1,000 masks have been made by Batik Boutique and donated in New Hampshire

Amenyo Foundation’s Batik Boutique continues to sell Ghanaian fabric products, however, a great emphasis of their work over the past year has been to make masks to be delivered locally to people and organizations who need them. Over 1,000 masks have been made and given away. Some of the fabric used is from Ghana, other has been donated, and some Amenyo Foundation has purchased. Masks have been given to Concord (NH) Hospital, Families in Transition, homeless shelters in the Rochester/Dover area, to frontline retail workers, to Dollar Stores, and elsewhere.

Thanks!

The Board of Directors and Officers of the Amenyo Foundation wish to thank its many supporters and friends. Although this has been an unusually difficult year due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, the support of many has enabled Amenyo to continue it's work in Ghana, Africa.

  • Contributions made by sponsors of scholars and others enabled Amenyo to continue it's support of students in high school, universities, trade schools, and apprenticeships.

  • Amenyo was able to continue its support of local health clinics in and near Kpenoe by paying the wages of a physician's assistant, supplying needed medicines, and purchasing equipment.

  • Monthly purchases of food helped save lives at the Schoonhoven Cured Leper Village.

In spite of limitations created by the pandemic, Amenyo was able to enrich and expand it's collaborative work with those in the Ho and Kpenoe region in order to better support the expressed needs of those in this region. The friendships and mutual respect between Amenyo and Togbe Kotoku XI, the Paramount Chief of Kpenoe, that form the foundation of Amenyo's work have been strengthened through this difficult time. New interactions with doctors and nurses at local health clinics and educators in the local schools and the regional school of nursing enriched Amenyo's understanding of how it can serve the needs of the community.

The Board Members and Officers of Amenyo look forward to continuing their work in the Kpenoe Region of Ghana in the coming year as pandemic related restrictions and concerns subside. One of our greatest hopes is that we can once again visit with our friends in Kpenoe to wish them well, in person.

One of the scholars that the Amenyo Foundation supports (in collaboration with the First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro UCC) tells about her educational goals, her faith in God, and her relationship with the Amenyo Foundation in the short video below.

As Delani notes in her video, the support from Amenyo has had a significant impact on her life and her hopes for the future. Delani’s kind spirit and intellect shine through in the video, highlighting qualities that have resulted in the development of trans-continental friendships and that make it an honor to provide support for her education.

Kpenoe Village Paramount Chief Thanks Amenyo Foundation

The following is a quote from a November 4, 2020 Facebook post by Togbe Kotoku XI, Paramount Chief of Kpenoe Traditional Area

“I remembered how you gave us a magnificent place of worship, good drinking water devoid of guinea worm, kindergartens block, furniture for the JHS, providing furniture and equipments for health clinic, and enrolling over 400 citizens for the health insurance card, and above all, scholarships for over 100 students. I can't forget the day you told me God brought you to us in Kpenoe. Thank you Amenyo Foundation and all who made possible for our dear town. We are grateful. Remembrance makes one grateful.”
